Maybe maritime regulations don't actually require you to have formal sailing qualifications to take to the water, in a small boat, but it certainly makes sense to gain them.

You wouldn't take to the roads without training in road craft or instruction in handling a vehicle, so it pays to extend that same principle to getting out on the water.

Consider that the Solent has a greater concentration of leisure craft than anywhere around the coastline of Britain, together with a high volume of commercial traffic, so water lanes can be busy and good sailing practice is paramount.

The Royal Southampton provides a range of RYA courses to help you get out on a boat safely and competently, and should you have the misfortune to end up in the water, lessons learned on our sea survival course could be a lifesaver.

RYA courses available at the club are day skipper, coastal skipper and yachtmaster ocean series. Separate one day courses include radar andÊ vhf operator, first aid at sea and sea survival and we also offer a two day powerboat level 2 course in the Club's own rib
The RSYC is a recognised RYA training centre and provides a whole range of courses which provide invaluable instruction and practical advice, for both members and non-members.The RSYC is a recognised RYA Training School for RYA Shore-based Theory Courses, other RYA Specialist Courses and some RYA Practical Courses.

All our instructors are fully accredited by the RYA.

The RSYC is authorised to award the International Certificate Of Competence (ICC), with CEVNI endorsement, to qualified members.
