It was Sunday, June 19 - Fathers’ Day - and a very busy day at Gins when the first of the Family Dinghy Days took place.
It was glorious sunny weather along with some breezy conditions.
Volunteers at Gins along with John the Bo’ sun had done a great job in preparing the Club dinghies ready for the families.
The Club RIB was in attendance for the safety aspects of the day and both the Gul and the Wanderer were launched for the families who had booked them. We also had a Gary and Sasha Fry’s Mirror dinghy ‘Oj’ & Andrew and Linda Campbell’s ‘Red Dragon’ on the water taking advantage of the safety boat cover provided by Head of Cadets, Simon Pickess and Rear Commodore Sailing Gordon Agnew.
A number of the younger children who weren’t sailing enjoyed crabbing, picnicking and a brief trip in the safety boat at lunchtime when things were quiet on the water.
Undeterred by the weather, the Cambell Family, the Yaldrons and the Henery Family took to the water and had a very adventurous time in the Wanderer and Gul with the Fry family in ‘Oj’ joining the little fleet on the water. The addition space on the new pontoon extension all added to the success of the day with the dinghies being prepared and rigged from there.
There will be another Family Dinghy Day at Gins on July 17 with safety boat cover as before. If you wish to take advantage of the presence of the safety boat and sail your own or the Club dinghies, please let the Sailing Secretary know as soon as possible.
There will be a small charge for the use of the Club dinghies of £10.00 per 1½ hour session while the RIB is in attendance. There are two sessions in the morning and two sessions in the afternoon and the boats will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis.
