These notes are to provide tips and information for parents and cadets to help you enjoy days of Cadet training. They are particularly for events at both the Gins and Ocean Village and Netley dinghy event days.

For Parents:
Booking/Consent Form
Parents or guardians of all cadets must complete a booking/consent form in good time prior to an event and return to the RSYC main office. Any special dietary requirements must be advised to the Sailing Secretary in advance. Full details and schedule of the event booked will be posted 10 – 14 days beforehand.

What to Wear
Warm, comfortable, clothing e.g. trousers (not jeans) and sweatshirts. It is better to wear a few light layers than one thick layer of clothing.
Adequate footwear must be worn at all times e.g., wet suit boots or old plimsolls/trainers that won’t matter if they get wet. Footwear should be “healed”; open toed and open healed flip flops are unsuitable.
Tie long hair back
Jewellery e.g. rings or chains must not be worn.

Things to Bring
Change of clothes
Towel
High factor sun cream and lip screen
Depending on the weather, warm hat or sunhat with visor

We will provide safety equipment if required. However, if you have your own buoyancy aid and helmet, please bring them.

Parents and Volunteers
In addition to the qualified instructors and safety boat drivers, at least six volunteers are needed to run events at the Gins Clubhouse. For example, cadets need supervising when ashore; the safety boat drivers need assistance in maintaining a lookout. If you are able to help in any way, even just for part of the event, please let the Sailing Secretary know.

If you do leave the clubhouse when your cadet is attending an event, please ensure that they understand the importance of good behaviour and of following any instructions. Please also ensure that you arrive promptly by the scheduled time to collect them.
