End of an era for Midweek Cruises

A word from Rex

It all began back in 2002, and 17 years on,the series of Midweek Cruises have come to a natural end.

The idea was the inspiration of Rex Woodgate who came up with the idea that members might cruise the Solent on Wednesdays and stop for lunch at one of many hostelries with a waterside frontage which quickly became favourite haunts.

But now 567 cruises on Rex and Joyce have finally sold their boat Rise’n’Shine which means the cruises, sadly, have come to an end.

Today, Rex sends a message to all members who have joined them during the series, thanking them for their support.

The Midweek Cruises were never an official Club event, but with Rex at the helm, enjoyed the Club’s full backing. The first outing was to the Folly Inn on the River Medina in the Isle of Wight, and over the years 20 or so members have regularly joined them for the Wednesday escapades , and on occasions, many more. Every outing was weather dependent, but the cruisers still managed to average around 37 a year.

Will anyone take up the challenge to continue the unique series?
