New General Manager

A new general manager has been appointed at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club, and takes up duties on February 21.

Commodore Anthony Knight announced today that the Club’s Executive Committee has appointed Lauren McCann to succeed present General Manager and company secretary, Donna Redford who is moving back to the Isle of Wight.

Lauren, who lives in the New Forest, has extensive food and beverage experience and of hospitality management developed over a highly successful career leading to general management.

The Commodore said this includes working with member organisations. She will be based at Gins and will be 'hands on' being there essentially whenever Gins is open to members, including most weekends.

'Her immediate objectives will be to ensure that Gins is ready to provide a high standard of hospitality and a food and beveragee experience that consistently meets members’ expectations' said the Commodore. 'We shall also be working with her to further develop our plans to continuously improve the Gins experience and revenue into the future.'

To ensure that Lauren is able to give undivided attention to Gins as she comes into post, Steph House, who has experience of office management, including with the RSYC, has kindly volunteered to work as acting Company Secretary and link to the secretariat at RSYC Itchen.

The Commodore continued: 'With the General Manager now being based at Gins, the separate position of Gins Manager has sadly become redundant. Following consultations, June Greenwood will be leaving her post by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. We thank her for all she has done for the Club in the past and we wish her well for her future endeavours.'

He made it clear that the Club is now in a position where it has

  • no outstanding liabilities or debts
  • substantial six figure reserves
  • stabilised membership numbers with a majority renewing, exceeding expectation
  • a highly experienced General Manager at the head of an experienced team
  • A very full 2019 programme of social, cruising, racing and events of all kinds

'The Club is now ready to face the next phase of its exciting new future. And with members’ participation that future can be brighter still.'
