FORMER RSYC member, Pete Goss is planning to entertain yachtsmen at the Royal Motor Yacht Club at Poole this weekend, destination for the RSYC's Cruise for the early May Bank Holiday.
At one time he claimed the record as the then fastest British sailor to sail single-handed around the world in 126 days and 21 hours, and subsequently for carrying out a rescue in the Vendee Globe, he was awarded France's highest decoration, the Legion d'Honneur by President Chirac of France, and the MBE by the Queen.
Tales from the sea have captured the imagination of generations - from 50ft high waves and deep troughs to howling winds and 30ft basking sharks and he asks who hasn't dreamt of sailing to new horizons and experiencing the excitement for themselves?
His meeting at the Royal Motor Yacht club on Friday, May 2, is enticingly called Talisker Tales, after teaming up with the single malt whisky compasny Talisker.
It is one of a series of small and intimate events at yacht sailing clubs across the UK, where Pete and and a local crew from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) plan to share their real life maritime adventures.
All money raised by the events will go direct to the RNLI, a charity that save lives at sea every year and assisted in the recent inland floods.
