The Clarkson Cup started this year’s IRC Solent Series with two races on Saturday in a light south westerly.

Thirty-seven boats entered the Clarkson Cup Regatta comprising four races over the Saturday and Sunday but only the Saturday races count towards the IRC Solent Series.

Class 1 (rating band 1.040-1.360) got away after a two and a half hour postponement waiting for breeze. Nick and Annie Haigh’s DK 46 Dark and Steamy took line honours and victory on corrected time by over 10 minutes from Ed Broadway’s Farr 40 Hooligan VI and Charles Ivill’s J/133 JB3.

A shorter Race 2 saw Dark and Steamy take victory on corrected time by 4 minutes from Hooligan VI with third Kristin Pagano’s Beneteau 44.7 recovering from a premature start in Race 1.

The combined results for Races 1 and 2 :
1, Dark and Steamy; 2, Hooligan VI; 3, JB3.

The overall results were also the same for the weekend regatta with Dark and Steamy maintaining a perfect score of four firsts.

Class 2 ( rating band 0.930 – 1.039 ) J109 Joyride Michael Jones took line honours but the Bateson Family’s Dehler 36 Starspray was first on corrected
time by 20 seconds from Joyride with third Mike Moxley’s HOD 35 Malice.

Race 2 saw Starspray take line honours and first on corrected time by 52 seconds from Teresa Whelan’s X342 Xarifa with Mike Bridges Elan 37 Elaine.

The combined results for races 1 and 2 are:
1, Starspray; 2, Xarifa; 3, Malice.

The overall results for the weekend regatta were:
1, Jos of Hamble (First 34.7 Octavia Williams); 2, Elaine; 3, Malice.

Class 3 (rating Band 0.825-0.929) -
Race 1. Jeff Worboys Sigma 33 Workout took
line honours and victory on corrected time by nearly five minutes from sistership Andy John's Shadowfax with third David Ryder’s Humphrey's 27 Catch

Race 2 saw Mike Fawcett take Line honours and victory on corrected time by 40 seconds from X35 Crakajax (Richard Hollis/Ursula Bagnall) and third
Shadowfax.

The combined results for races 1 and 2 are:
1, Hobby Horse; 2, Shadowfax; 3, Workout.
The overall results for the weekend regatta:
1, Workout; 2, Hobby Horse; 3, Shadowfax.

The multihull class was won overall by Raider 30 Team Eberspacher (Ben Goodland) with second Phil Cotton’s Buzz and third Grant Kelly’s Corsair F28R Velox.
