Welcome to the 2010 Cadet Programme
If you’ve never sailed before, or want to improve your skills, we’ve arranged a series of RYA Start Sailing courses through Southampton Water Activities Centre (SWAC), just 100 meters up river from Ocean Village. There are 4 Stages, each of which takes two days and is run over a weekend. You don’t have to take all 4 courses and can book on whichever level suits you best. Once through level 1 & 2 you will be able to practice further using the Dinghy’s at SWAC (for a nominal charge) throughout the year via the RYA “On Board” scheme.
Following the success of last year, we are again offering a day’s sailing in Southampton Water and the Solent on board the Ocean Youth Trust’s training ship the John Laing – a rare opportunity not to be missed and thoroughly enjoyed by all in 2009!
We are again running cadet dinghy days at Gins in late July aimed at the novice sailor, but are replacing our usual days at Ocean village with a new joint venture dinghy event late August between RSYC and Netley Sailing Club (NSC). This two day venture will be based at NSC and will provide a wide range of dinghy’s and on/off shore activities including camping overnight for those that wish and an evening barbecue.
Minimum age for all courses is 8 and maximum is 15 except the John Laing sail day where the minimum age is 12.

GINS– Dinghy Sailing
Start sailing whilst having fun on the lovely Beaulieu River. Sailing will mainly be in Picos with & the Club dinghies. Supervision by RYA Instructors. |

NETLEY SAILING CLUB – Dinghy Sail/Camp
Improve your dinghy skills with two days of informal training and fun events based at Netley SC on the shores of Southampton Water. Families can either camp on site and join the BBQ or join for the day. |

OCEAN YOUTH TRUST SAIL TRAINING DAY ON BOARD THE JOHN LAING
A fantastic opportunity to have a unique day’s sailing experience. Cadets will be divided into watches and will prepare the boat for sea with each watch responsible for hoisting a sail. Cadets will take turns in steering and lookout in the busy Solent. Lunch will be on board in a local harbour and the afternoon will teach tacking and sail changes and general seamanship before heading back to Ocean Village. |
