» BNY Biscay Challenge 2011 launched
» Race Management Team member and former RSYC Rear Commodore Sailing, Dave Giddings, was a Principal Race Officer of the world famous Cowes Week Regatta. Dave was the PRO for the first triumvirate of Clubs, consisting of the Royal Southampton, Royal London & Royal Thames, who together provide over 50 race officers to run the first three days of Cowes Week. Dave is responsible for the smooth running of the racing for the 37 different classes each day.
When not working on the Biscay Challenge, Dave is also the 2010 CRO for Solo Offfshore Racing Club (formerly Petit Bateau), many of whose members race in our Double Handed Series.

Aquellos que conocen nuestra página web de 2009 se alegrarán al oír que la exitosa fórmula de la regata de a dos del Biscay Challenge de Southampton a Hondarribia en el corazón de Euskal Herries está de vuelta, aunque para mejorar la experiencia hemos hecho caso a los comentarios de los competidores de aquella regata y de las anteriores en el Golfo de Bizkaia.

El Real de Southampton se siente honrado y privilegiado de su asociación con entidad tan prestigiosa como el Bank of New York Mellon y a partir de ahora la regata se denominará 2011 BNY Mellon Biscay Challenge, siendo organizada por el Royal Southampton Yacht Club.

LA REGATA
La regata del mid-Solent a Hondarribia ofrece 540 millas de retos a veleros mono o multicasco que naveguen con solo dos personas abordo - la clásica regata de a dos. Los competidores se enfrentarán a las sorpresas del English Channel (Canal de la Mancha) y una vez bordeado Ushant alcanzarán las a veces notorias aguas del Golfo de Bizkaia. La regata puede llevar hasta cinco dias, dependiendo de las condiciones climatológicas y del estado de la mar
Habiamos considerado la posibilidad de una regata de vuelta al Reino Unido o bien a uno destino francés, pero resultaría impracticable debido a diversos obstáculos y a possibles imprevistos.
