Race Management Team member and former RSYC Rear Commodore Sailing, Dave Giddings, was a Principal Race Officer of the world famous Cowes Week Regatta, starting on July 31. Dave is the PRO for the first triumvirate of Clubs, consisting of the Royal Southampton, Royal London & Royal Thames, who together provide over 50 race officers to run the first three days of Cowes Week. Dave is responsible for the smooth running of the racing for the 37 different classes each day.

When not working on the Biscay Challenge, Dave is also the 2010 CRO for Solo Offshore Racing Club (formerly Petit Bateau), many of whose members race in our Double Handed Series.

BNY Mellon Asset Management announces sponsorship of 2011 Biscay Challenge

LONDON, June 18, 2010 - BNY Mellon Asset Management is to be the main sponsor of the 2011 Biscay Challenge yacht race.  Hosted by the Royal Southampton Yacht Club, the BNY Mellon Biscay Challenge is a sailing race from the Solent, just off the south coast of the UK, to Hondarribia on the northern coast of Spain.

The Biscay Challenge is a tough two-handed race for both mono and multi hull yachts.  Sailing some 540 miles of tactical and navigational challenges for up to five days, competitors will face the difficulties of the English Channel and once round the north west coast of France at Ushant, they tackle the sometimes notorious waters of the Bay of Biscay. The 2011 race will begin on 18 June 2011 at 1400 hours from mid-Solent, and will take up to four or five days, dependant on winds and weather patterns, to end in Hondarribia.

Royal Southampton Yacht Club is the pioneer of two handed yacht racing (yacht racing with just two people aboard) in the UK and is recognised as the organiser of the country’s premier two-handed racing series.
