Club member John Hughes cycled from London to Paris, setting out on Friday,
May 2, 2008 to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. He covered 233 miles averaging 14.2 mph.
As John says "most of us have had encounters with cancer, either personally or through close relatives and this is for Robert and his family and in memory of Sue."
John set off from Clapham Common on the Friday at midday along with 20
other riders. He crossed the channel from Newhaven to Dieppe and cycled through
the beautiful Normandy countryside ending up in Vernon and then onwards into Paris
arriving midday Monday, May 5.
You can still sponsor him by donating online (see link above) and as this is the charity chosen by Colin Lewis as the Commodore's
Charity this year, and you can also donate directly through
the club.
Cycling is quite recent activity for John, but having been bitten by the bug he
has now clocked up a few thousand miles over the last three years.
