Have you signed up for the Commodore's 500 Club for 2011?

The idea has been running for several years now and has proved a fun way to raise cash for the Commodore's Charity while at the same time giving members a chance to win a tidy cash bonus each month.

Last month one of our members received a welcome cheque of £380.00, but it could well be more, depending how many of our members' join. In December we began to support Commodore Peter Armitage's charity, JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

At present 150 RSYC members have signed up, but if all 500 of the individually allocated numbers were taken, the monthly prizepot would be £1,250, with a similar amount going to the Foundation.

It works like this - a ceiling of 500 numbers are individually allocated exclusively to RSYC members who each subscribe £5 a month, either by direct debit or by a one-off annual cheque for £60.

During the month a draw is made in the Ocean Village office or at a social function.  Half the month's contribution goes to the lucky winner; the other half, less minor operating expenses is allocated directly to the Foundation, and could mean up to £12,000 in a full year. Just think how this could help the Foundation in its research to finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.

JDRF was founded by a small group of parents of children with Type 1 diabetes who recognised that insulin injections are not the cure for this life threatening and lifelong condition and the South Coast has one of the highest incidences of type 1 diabetes in the whole of the UK.

For almost 40 years, JDRF has been fundamentally involved in the delivery of advances in diabetes research; seeking out, assessing and monitoring the best science to drive the breakthroughs that improve management of Type 1 diabetes and will ultimately cure the condition.

It makes sense to join in the support provided by the Commodore's 500 Club and at the same time stand a chance of winning that useful cash bonus? To sign up is easy. Just call, or email Maggie Puleston at Ocean Village on 023 8021 0877 or email maggie@rsyc.org.uk
