There is still time to enter the Royal Southampton’s 2010 Photographic Competition or submit a Cruise Diary.

With magnificent conditions at leat in early summer, members have had golden opportunities  for capturing the memorable occasions in sailing life and club activity. Cruising members still have time to put the finishing touches to their account of one of this year’s cruises.

As a reminder, for the photo contest we invited you to have free rein for your interpretation of life ashore or afloat in pictures following a theme of club activity on the water, ashore, or capturing some of the personalities within the Club or on your sailing expeditions.

If you took your camera when you were out on the water or visiting the clubhouses and seized any opportunity to capture the atmosphere of what being a member of the Royal Southampton is all about, we would like to share those pictures. For the Cruise Diary contest we are looking for short articles on some memorable experience which may have occurred during a weekend rally or on a day at sea, or a longer report on  travels on a longer cruise.
Vibrant pictures on the water, colourful moods in the club houses and the evocative emotions of people - there have been an endless number of opportunities for photographs and we invite members to share their camera skills with.

We are not interested in the technicalities of exposure times, focal length, or shutter speeds, merely in the results and what the resulting picture is like. If you have photos in your collection this year which appeal to you, there’s every likelihood that it will appeal to the judges as well.

We do not rule out digitally edited pictures.  Our past Photo and Cruise Diary competitions have produced some striking photography and we anticipate seeing even more ingenious photographic images this year.

The photo competition will run throughout September and will close on Monday, October 4, giving just enough time to include the weekend Yarmouth race and rally to support the RNLI. Winners will be announced at the Commodore’s dinner on Saturday, October 23.

Winners in each category will receive a prize, and an overall winner will be selected by the judges and will receive a special prize.

The Cruise Diary contest will close before the Laying Up Supper on Saturday, November 6.
Full details of both competitions are on the Club website, along with the rules. Log on and download an entry form and submit your entries to the Editor by Monday, October 4

The competition will be judged by the Commodore and an independent judge, along with the Club Editor.  So be imaginative with your camera, let your mind's eye be inventive and don’t miss a single opportunity to capture an original shot.
