HOPING to sail into Weymouth Bay during the Olympics or Paralympics — expect strict sailing zones to be in force, and remember that unless your boat strictly qualifies as a pleasure vessel, that you'll need to get it certified.

The Olympics take place between July 27 and August 12, and the Paralympics from August 29 and September 9. There will be also preparatory events like Sail for Gold in the lead up to the games.

Providing you can meet the requirements as a pleasure vessel your boat will not need to be certified. That means privately owned vessels used only for sport or pleasure of the owner and family or friends or corporate or club owned vessels used only by employees or club members do not need to be surveyed before entering the area, and that no payments are made to the owner except for direct expenses in connection with the spectator trip.
