Humphrey Bogart was the surprise celebrity guest who greeted over 70 members and guests at the Gins Ragtime Party on July 3, 2010.
The party theme was the 1920's era and everyone was treated to an imaginary trip to New York, from Southampton, in the golden age of the Cunard transatlantic liners with dinner being served in the famous "Cotton Club."
A perfect evening commenced with cocktails and canapés on the lawn alongside the beautiful Beaulieu River in what can only be described as perfect summer conditions with the band " Shrunk in the Wash" playing light background music.
This was followed by a four course dinner and dancing in the Clubhouse with period music provided by "Society Swing." Magician and illusionist James Prince amazed the guests with a succession of mystifying tricks and illusions to complete the evening including cutting in half Jackie Knight our social representative (we are now seeking a keen new committee member to take on Jackie's duties!!).
Period dress, though not compulsory, was worn by a good percentage of the party goers which added a touch of colour to the black and white theme of the stunning Clubhouse decorations.
Thanks go to the team of willing helpers who laboured tirelessly for over a week to get everything ready and to the staff who worked hard to make the evening perfect for those who attended."
